Using Your PAX 2

A: PAX 2 was designed to be easy to use. Refer to the full PAX 2 user guide below for full instructions, but here’s a quick rundown: Starting with a fully charged PAX 2, simply fill the oven with your medium-fine ground blend, turn PAX 2 on by pressing the top button. The front LED will cycle, then turn purple and begin to warm up. As soon as the LED turns green, PAX 2 is ready to draw! The small slit (standard flat mouthpiece) is where vapor port is, place that edge of PAX 2 up to your lips and draw. The alternate mouthpiece has a more traditional function.
A: PAX 2 prefers a medium-fine grind consistency, firmly loaded.
A: PAX 2 should pre-heat in as little as 30 seconds.
A: PAX 2 has four temperature settings. These are chosen via the top button. When powered on, hold the top button for two seconds to enter temperature adjustment mode. The LED X is comprised of four small elements. Clicking the top button will allow you to cycle the temperature as needed for your personal tastes. The setting you choose will remain after you power cycle PAX 2.

A: Factors such as temperature, grind consistency (the same particle size throughout), grind size (medium-fine is best, avoid finely ground, and hand-ground blends) combined with your draw rate will all determine the vapor quality. Vary these factors as needed to find your desired vapor quality.
A: No, we highly advise against the use of liquid or solid concentrates in your PAX 2.  
A: No, PAX 2 is a true vaporizer, gently heating aromatic blends to release vapor.  
A: PAX 2 is made from the highest quality stainless steel, used in the conduction oven and vapor path. The outer shell is made from anodized aluminum casing in four colors.
A: Proprietary, w/ Stainless Steel Oven
A: Firmly fill your blends until the oven is full.
A: You shouldn’t need to stir your blends in PAX 2, but if you feel you should, once every 3-4 draws is sufficient. This will vary depending on climate and blend.
A: PAX 2’s screens are completely unique, and not measured in the standard way.
A: About 2-3 hours to fully charge the battery.
A: The charging dock has changed on PAX 2. The USB cable plugs into the charging dock, which is magnetic. The included barrel tip port allows for the use of legacy PAX car chargers.
A: Once you have plugged in the micro-USB cable into the dock, simply lay PAX 2 on the dock with the exposed terminals making contact. The magnet attachment insures the connection if perfect every time.
A: The device has an on-board accelerometer. If the device sits still for 20 seconds, it goes into standby mode, your PAX 2 light will turn blue and will reach a lower heat setting, around 150°C. Once you pick the device up or move it, PAX 2 will heat up and the LED will turn purple (heating) or green (heated) based on current temperature, then will return to the last temperature setting selected.

If the device sits still for 3 minutes, PAX 2 will shut off. A bumpy car ride is enough motion to keep the device awake if left on; always make sure your device is powered off when not in use.

As a general safety rule, do not leave PAX 2 unattended while powered on.

A:  PAX 2 charger is USB, but with an added option to use the same non-usb barrel-style power cord as well. This allows for use with the existing PAX car charger.
A: Yes, PAX 2 uses USB, and also the old style barrel cord from the original PAX. the current batch of PAX 2 chargers support 110-240 volts;however, you will likely still need to use the appropriate converter for your location and outlet system to avoid damaging the unit.  Check your charger before using it abroad.
A: No, PAX 2 must be charged and off of the charger before use.
A: We recommend sipping on the vapor as if it were hot tea. You can also use the alternate mouthpiece that is included with PAX 2.

A: PAX 2 has been designed to not need any lubricant whatsoever.
A: Hold PAX 2 horizontally in front of you and roll it towards yourself multiple times. Party mode overrides the standby mode while the LED continuously flashes multiple colors.   

Cleaning & Maintenance

A: Always allow PAX 2 to cool COMPLETELY before cleaning, 30 minutes should be sufficient.

Do not attempt any internal or external repairs to your unit as doing so may cause fatal injury – or worse – void your warranty! (Please contact us if you feel something is wrong with your vaporizer.)

Handle your PAX 2 with care, as you would any sensitive electronic device.

Inspect your PAX 2 periodically, paying particular attention to the mouthpiece, vapor path,and screen/oven.

PAX 2 has provided a handy cleaning guide which is located on the ‘User Guide’ tab on the left, and we carry replacement PAX 2 cleaning kits if your supplies have run low.

Always make sure your vaporizer is COMPLETELY dry before plugging it back in.

A: PAX 2 is a precision device. It’s important to clean PAX 2 on a regular basis. If you clean your PAX 2 well, it shouldn’t need to be cleaned for at least a dozen or so uses to remain in top performance. Of course, the more the merrier! Please note, wetter material may require more frequent cleaning. Inspect your parts periodically, they will tell you when they need to be cleaned.
A: Yes! PAX 2 comes with 9ml of isoporpyl alcohol to use with the cleaning sticks. Avoid bringing any liquids near PAX 2 or vice versa. We definitely recommend the cleaning sticks that come with PAX 2 or its replacement cleaning kit. You can soak the mouthpiece and the screen in alcohol, but no other part!
A: As you periodically inspect PAX 2, focus on the removable mouthpiece, the vapor path, and oven.
A: if you have lost or damaged any part of your PAX 2, check out PAX 2 parts page for replacement parts, or contact us if you have further questions.
A: The included isopropyl alcohol and cleaning sticks should be all that you need to clean your PAX 2 Contact us if it does not.
A: PAX 2’s mouthpiece can be submerged in isopropyl alcohol. 90% or higher is ideal, but 70% will work. Submerge and wait 20 seconds, then agitate. Use PAX 2’s cleaning sticks inside the stainless steel vapor path if needed. If any residue remains, repeat process.
A: We recommend that you do not soak the oven lid. Isopropyl alcohol can be applied to a cotton swab or included cleaning sticks to wipe the oven lid clean.

Getting the Most Out of Your PAX 2

  • First things first, 2-3 hours on the charging dock = a happy PAX 2 .
  • A firmly loaded, full oven = an even happier PAX 2 !
  • Change the mouthpiece as needed to suit your draw style
  • Fully satisfied? To power off, press the mouthpiece button once to turn PAX 2 off.

Maintenance

PAX 2 is a precision device and should be cleaned on a regular basis. While PAX 2 is powered on, remove mouthpiece and soak in soap and water. Let mouthpiece dry before replacing. To clean PAX 2 body, remove mouthpiece and oven lid. Moisten cleaning tool with isopropyl alcohol. Starting from the mouthpiece end, insert moistened cleaning tool into the vapor pathway, pushing out the oven screen. Floss PAX 2 with cleaning tool. To clean PAX 2 oven, oven lid, and screen, use a moistened bent cleaning tool or moistened cotton swab to remove residue. Screens will need to be replaced as necessary.

Try these Solutions to common issues:

“A: PAX 2’s mouthpiece does not have a vapor path in the center; it is located directly above the silver stem, under a little lip on the side. To confirm this, remove the mouthpiece and oven lid from the unit, then blow through PAX 2 with your hand on the oven side to see if any air can be felt.
A: Ensure PAX 2 is fully charged. The front LED should illuminate on the charger. The LED should also illuminate when PAX 2 is turned on.
A: Grind blends finely and fill the oven tightly. If your PAX 2’s oven is cooled off, you can tamp your blends down with the short side of your oven lid. Draw from PAX 2 as if you are sipping a cup of hot tea; a series of short draws.
A: Clean metal charging contacts, try charging with PAX 2 oriented opposite direction on dock. Contact us if this is unsuccessful.  
A: Blow warm air from your mouth into the mouthpiece area.  Contact us  if this is unsuccessful.  
A: While removing your unit from the charger, there may have been some intermittent connection made between the electrical contacts. When this happens, your PAX 2 will initiate a new charging/condition cycle, and will take awhile to turn green on the charger again. During this time, checking your battery life might result in a yellow (medium) charge indication despite the battery being full. To prevent this from occurring, please make sure to fully remove your PAX 2 from the charger quickly to assure the contacts are not making a brief connection.

10 Year Ltd. Warranty

PAX Labs, Inc. warrants PAX 2 against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of ten (10) years from the date of retail purchase by the original end-user purchaser. If a physical defect arises and a claim is received within the Warranty Period, at its option and to the extent permitted by law, PAX Labs, Inc. will either (1) Repair the product defect, (2) Exchange the product with a product that is new or is at least a functionally equivalent product, or (3) Refund the purchase price of the product. The Limited Warranty does not apply to normal performance degradation of batteries or neglecting to adhere to cleaning instructions. PAX 2 Warranty is only serviceable in the US and Canada, as PAX 2 is only available for purchase in the US and Canada, at this time.

Exclusions and Limitations

The Limited Warranty applies only to products manufactured by PAX Labs, Inc. The Limited Warranty does not apply to any non-PAX Labs products. This warranty does not apply to (a) damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake, acts of piracy, or other external causes; (b) to damage caused by operating the product outside the permitted or intended use as described by PAX Labs; (c) to a product or part that has been modified to alter functionality or capability; (d) to cosmetic damage, including but not limited to scratches, dents, and broken plastic. Important: Warranty applies to original end-user purchaser only and is non-transferable. Warranty does not apply should you purchase through a 3rd party reseller such as eBay and Craigslist. PAX 2 warranties only apply to devices purchased at any authorized retailer serviced by an authorized PAX 2 distributor. For questions regarding authorized retailers, please contact us via email.
