Brief Overview

The IOLITE Original is a revolutionary portable vaporizer designed by a company with more than 25 years of experience in the field of portable heat-controlled units. This pocket-sized vaporizer gives the user true freedom by eliminating cords and batteries. Using a patented flame-less butane catalytic heater, the IOLITE Original heats up in just minutes. Virtually silent, the IOLITE Original offers discreet use in almost any setting.

See User Guides below for full usage information.

Using Your IOLITE

A: As the IOLITE uses a radically different heating system than any other vaporizer, its vital that you read the instructions carefully. Full IOLITE PDF manual is available on the ‘User Guides’ tab.

Quick Overview: Once the IOLITE is filled and heated up, simply fill the mouthpiece heating chamber, and insert into the IOLITE, and begin drawing. The heater will kick on periodically to ensure the heating chamber is always at the correct temperatures.

1. Fill With Fuel

Switch IOLITE to the “off” position before filling.
With the Gas Input Valve facing upwards, push butane canister down into the valve.
Stop filling when gas spills from the valve.
TIP: If the IOLITE tank is completely empty, switch on the gas for 15 seconds before igniting.

2. Load Filling Chamber

Remove Filling Chamber and load finely ground blends. Replace Filling Chamber.
TIP: Load blends up to 3/4 capacity of the Filling Chamber.

3.Turn It On

Turn IOLITE on and push ignition button. You may need to try a few times before IOLITE ignites.
The orange indicator light will become visible. The light will turn off after 60 seconds, once optimum temperature is reached,

4. Enjoy!

Slowly draw as if you are sipping on a hot cup of tea.
A full load should last roughly 10 – 15 minutes.

5. Turn it Off.

Empty the Filling Chamber (Careful! The Filling Chamber gets hot!)
Replace Filling Chamber.
Turn IOLITE off.

A: Sorry for the confusion. The ‘O’ means OFF; the ‘1’ means ON.
A: As a general rule of thumb, the IOLITE takes about 30 to 45 seconds to reach the correct temperature.

During this time, a clearly visible temperature light located in the side will glow orange. When this light goes off, the unit is ready to use.

A: The great thing about the Iolite is that it is portable, so it can easily be carried in one hand. How you hold it is up to you, but, to get the best access to the mouthpiece, try holding it with the ribbed effect towards you. The only thing we ask is that you’re aware of the heat that may come out of the grilled vents during usage.
A: Its probably best to always keep your can of extra butane close at hand, as there is not a definitive way to determine how much butane is inside the OG. A window was added in the WISPR model from IOLITE.
A: Yes, perfectly normal, the IOLITE will feel a bit warm, but never more. It uses a catalytic heater that heats up your blend, so it’s likely to get a bit warm with use.
A: Butane is actually far more accessible than electricity, as you can travel with a can of butane to exotic locations that cannot provide power hookups. Butane also delivers an instant recharge, unlike batteries. A little blast of butane goes a long way!

Used correctly, butane gas is perfectly fine and IOLITE has been making products that are powered by butane since 1984. It’s also worth mentioning that butane gas is used in everyday products like shaving foam and aerosols, so you could already be using it on and over your body.

A: There is a port on the top of the IOLITE, invert the butane can and align the nozzle tip to the port and press hard. The sound of the butane filling the OG will change when the OG is full.

Use caution your first time, as butane can escape during this process. Keep the can and port perfectly aligned to create the best seal.

A: YES. Pay attention to the type of gas you are using.

Make sure it is at least 5x filtered. Best practice is to buy your butane by the case; we aren’t saying this in order to sell you a case, rather owner have reported the most success when using the same type of butane consistently in the Original.

Using varying brands and qualities of butane has adverse effects on the performance. We have butane by the can or the case. Butane can only be shipped via Ground services.

A: Absolutely not.
A: Nope! Butane is the only fuel for this heater.

A: It depends on the material that you choose to use. On average you’ll get between 10 and 15 pulls. An average session is about 15 minutes long.

A: Again, it depends on the strength of each pull you take through the mouthpiece, but typically it lasts around two hours. You can also check how much butane is left by looking at the fuel window on your IOLITE.
A: It’s a very simple and smart system. Inside the heating unit, there’s a central pin that heats up at the same time as the rest of the chamber. This means that all of your blend heats up at the same time, ensuring that when it’s ready to use your IOLITE delivers a smoother and more consistent experience.

Please note, we strongly recommend that you don’t cram the chamber with your blend. This will reduce the efficiency of your IOLITE and, as a result, the overall experience.

We sell an IOLITE accessory, ‘the optimizer’, which is a three-pin unit that warms up your blend even faster.

A: Ultem is a very high grade, strong, quality plastic. It is used in the hi-tech food industry, so rest assured that it is odorless and tasteless. It is also strong and lightweight. It has minimal heat transfer to keep your IOLITE as cool to the touch as possible.
A: The IOLITE Parts page has everything IOLITE related to keep your vaporizer running perfectly.
A: Yes, perfectly normal. The catalytic heater heats up your blend, so the Iolite is likely to get warm with use. Because it gets warm, we suggest that you don’t hold your hand – or any other part of you – against the grid.
A: We definitely don’t recommend it. The catalytic process requires oxygen to work and this can be severely hampered if the IOLITE is in its carrying pouch.
A: The catalytic heater in the IOLITE does make a sound, a low rush, that is audible when maintaining oven temperatures.
A: The orange light on the side is the heat indicator that alerts you that the catalytic heater is engaged.

When you turn the IOLITE on, you slide the button from 0 to 1 to engage the fuel delivery. Push the bottom button in to ignite the heater. (Click again if it does ignite of the first attempt.)

Once the heater engages, its heat will illuminate the orange “light” on the side. (Its actually just a small window in to the heater that allows you to see the glow from the catalytic process).

As the chamber arrives at its proper temperatures, the heater(and orange light) will turn off. When the chamber becomes too cool for vaporization, the heater and orange light should automatically kick back on.

A: It could mean that the heater has fuel, but no ignition. Is the IOLITE making a sound when you turn it on as if its loaded with butane? If so, does the sound change when you click the ignition? Do you feel any heat being produced?

If repeated attempts to cycle the IOLITE have failed to ignite it, please contact us.

A: After use, the IOLITE will become slightly warm to the touch, but nothing uncomfortable whatsoever. A hot cup of coffee if FAR warmer than what you will feel with the IOLITE.

Use caution when removing the mouthpiece/chamber after use, it will retain heat the longest.

A: You should never smell butane emanating from a IOLITE during normal operation. Its possible that when you are filling the butane, some make leak out of the can, but that is a common occurrence when refilling butane.

If you feel that you are absolutely smelling butane during normal IOLITE operation, please contact us.

A: The IOLITE is only shut down when you shut it off, or it runs out of butane fuel.

Its internal thermostat will maintain the temperature by periodically turning the heater on. This process will continue until it is physically shut off, or when it runs out of fuel.

A: That is a grinder that IOLITE has included with the IOLITE package. Its graded to create a grind what works perfectly in the IOLITE. It is super convenient, and if well maintained, can last you a very long time.
A: Absolutely.
A: The IOLITE was designed to excel at elevations of 5000 ft and below. This is due to oxygen in the atmosphere being too thin for the catalytic process to occur.
A: This is normal, Allow a few minutes for the IOLITE to settle after filling.
A: The IOLITE prefers a grind that is slightly larger than the holes in the screen. The grind from the included grinder card will provide an excellent reference point for what size excels in the IOLITE.

A: The IOLITE preheats in roughly 30 seconds.
A: The temperature is controlled internally and is not adjustable.
A: IOLITE recommends drawing it like a cigar, just until you get comfortable with it.
A: The IOLITE is a very refined device, and as long as you have your grind correct(medium to medium-fine) then you should experience consistent vapor quality each time you use it. Use the IOLITE grinder card that came with the IOLITE for reference grind quality.

A full heating chamber will allow for thicker vapors, but be mindful not to overload it too tightly, or it will restrict airflow too much.

Varying the draw rate can help you vary the vapor quality, with slower drawing usually creating denser vapors.

A: The IOLITE was designed for aromatic blends only
A: Nope! It also won’t work on 110v, as this vaporizer is completely butane gas powered!
A: Room temperature to roughly 390°F, 199°C
A: Roughly 390°F, 199°C
A: Make sure you have your grind level correct, a medium to medium-fine grind. Use the IOLITE grinder card that came with the IOLITE for reference.
A: The temperature is controlled internally and is not adjustable, and has no temperature display, Celsius or otherwise.
A: The heating chamber is made of aluminum.
A: The heating ‘element’ is a butane-powered catalytic heater.
A: It is extremely unlikely that the IOLITE will over-heat your blends. Know that the operating range is close to 390&deg:, 199°C in the heating chamber, so it is your responsibility to only put in blends that will not over-heat at that temperature.
A: Load the heating chamber full, but definitely not loaded tightly, or you will will restrict airflow.
A: The IOLITE should not require stirring, but feel free to unload, mix and reload as you feel necessary.
A: The heater will shut down when the chamber has gotten to the required temperatures, however the unit will continue to cycle on and off to maintain temperature. The unit needs to be manually shut off to stop this process.

As a general safety rule, do not leave the IOLITE unattended while powered on.

A: Yes, the unit is off, but because the chamber holding your blend is hot and the butane gas in the main unit is pressurized, this gas needs to be released to ensure that the Iolite cools down and continues to operate effectively. This release takes place over three cycles that can last for several seconds.

Cleaning & Maintenance

A: Its important to check your IOLITE and its parts periodically to ensure peak performance.

Always allow the IOLITE to cool COMPLETELY before cleaning, 30 minutes should be sufficient.

Do not attempt any internal or external repairs to your unit as doing so may cause fatal injury – or worse – void your warranty! (Please contact us if you feel something is wrong with your vaporizer. )

The heating chamber can be cleaned with a cotton swab that is slightly damp with alcohol. The mouthpiece and tips can be soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

A: Your IOLITE will tell you when its time to clean, you just have to be mindful to check your IOLITE and its parts periodically to ensure peak performance.
A: Gently, on the mouthpiece, and heating chamber. Do not use it on any other parts of the IOLITE , and use caution to never bring liquids near the unit, or vice versa.

Damp cotton and cloths should be sufficient to clean the unit itself, and if you have something that has become lodged in the grill, they can be removed carefully and cleaned with the included chenile sticks.

A: The heating chamber, the mouthpiece, and extension tubes, if in use.
A: All of the functional parts on the IOLITE are replaceable.
A: the included chenile sticks, in combination with isopropyl alcohol should be all you would need.

DO NOT, under any circumstances, use anything metallic to clean or dislodge debris from inside the heating chamber. If you scratch the surface, that scratch will forever be a difficult area to clean. If you must use something to dislodge debris, use plastic. Soft plastic.

A: IOLITE includes a nice cleaning/maintenance kit with the IOLITE, which contains chenile sticks for cleaning, tools for mouthpiece removal, extra screens and a custom IOLITE grinder card.

Getting the Most Out of Your IOLITE

  • In between cleanings, the mouthpiece might incur some buildup, causing it to be sticky. If you are having trouble removing the mouthpiece, use the included tool, and if you are still having issues, turn the IOLITE on and allow it to heat up, this should create enough warmth so the stickiness is reduced.
  • Pay attention to the type of gas you are using. Make sure it is at least 5x filtered. Best practice is to buy your butane by the case; The IOLITE prefers to use a consistent brand of butane.
  • The IOLITE works best when room temperature or warmer, so if you are in a cold climate, store the IOLITE against the body before use.
  • After filling with butane, allow the IOLITE to sit for 3-4 minutes. When you fill the IOLITE, the butane becomes very cold, and needs to warm up a little for best operation.
  • Empty your used chamber as soon as possible after use, this will cut down on buildup.
  • Check your mouthpiece screen after every spent chamber. When warm, blowing in reverse through it will keep debris from being collected.
  • Want even cooler vapors? All you need is the Silicone extension tube with glass mouthpiece.

Maintenance

Keeping your IOLITE clean is the best way to ensure its peak performance.

  • Let your IOLITE cool down completely before performing any cleaning duties.
  • The mouthpiece and heating chamber will take most of the buildup. Soaking in isopropyl alcohol until the buildup has dissolved will clean them perfectly. The IOLITE comes with an screen, so while your soaking your dirty screen, you always have an extra ready to go. Lose your extra? We have extra screens available.
  • To clean the chamber, use a cotton swab that is SLIGHTLY damp with isopropyl alcohol. swirl in a circular motion until all debris and buildup is removed.
  • DO NOT, under any circumstances, use anything metallic to clean or dislodge debris from inside the heating chamber. If you scratch the surface, that scratch will forever be a difficult area to clean. If you must use something to dislodge debris, use plastic. Soft plastic.
  • The IOLITE body can be cleaned with a warm damp cloth. Damp cotton and cloths should be sufficient to clean the unit itself, and if you have something that has become lodged in the grill, they can be removed carefully and cleaned with the included chenile sticks. Never bring liquids near the IOLITE.
  • Emptying the heating chamber/mouthpiece immediately after use will cut down on the buildup you experience.
  • Always allow all parts to completely air dry before use.

Need Assistance with your IOLITE?

Try these Solutions to common issues:

A: To heat, the IOLITE should make two clicks. The first turns the gas on, and the second sparks the Piezo igniter, which should start the catalytic heater. Your IOLITE should ignite on the second click.

If you hear the gas running, but no change in sound and no heat generated after the second click, check the light on the side. Is it orange?

If you are getting no ignition, turn the unit off and allow it to sit for five minutes. Try to ignite again, and if you are unsuccessful, please contact us to see if you have a warranty issue.

A: It is possible that your body has absorbed them!

If your unit is operating normally and you are seeking thicker vapors, try a slightly finer grind, and/or slow down your draw rate slightly.

Many owners find the addition of the IOLITE optimizer helps them create a richer, denser vapor.

A: This is highly unlikely as the WISPR2 has an internal thermostat that controls the maximum heat. However if you feel that this is happening to your blends, and you are using blends that are appropriate for the the temperature of the IOLITE oven, please contact us.
A: It is possible that buildup that has cooled has become so sticky that it has basically glued the mouthpiece into the unit. No worries, just turn the unit on and allow the heater to heat up, and you should be able to remove the mouthpiece instantly.
A: It’s extremely rare, but possible that the heater will kick on once after you have shut it off.
A: All you need is the IOLITE Silicone extension tube with glass mouthpiece.

If these troubleshooting tips don’t work, please contact us.
